Wood project question.

Found the cast iron pieces for this bench at a garage sale. Picked up some precut lumber and sanded off the edges. Drilled some holes and inserted bolts and screws and this is what it looked like. Took it all apart again. Painting the iron with enamel now. Oak is being coated with tung oil. Takes a long time to cure. How many coats of tung oil should i do if it goes outside in the shade? Should i still cover it?

Your political antagonist is going to give you some worthy advice here. Pay attention. You've already started with the wrong product.

Pure tung oil provides water resistance but is not a durable, weatherproof sealant for outdoor oak.

Don't waste your time adding additional coats. Let it dry for 30 days and then use this over top.

Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane
Be sure it's oil-based and not water based.

Apply two to three coats, allowing each subsequent coat to dry

The tung oil has to be completely dry and not tacky before you apply it.

@Gibbon i was thinking the same thing. I have observed spare urethane to be holding up quite well on a picnic table up north but i have notice oak break down outside if not treated. I first considered boiled linseed oil but online info suggested that tung oil is better. I think I'll need to cover the bench when it's not in use plus screw the legs to treated lumber or get some recycled plastic wood.
