Since I don't see the ads anyway without VIP, I have to wonder about this myself. Good question and I look forward to seeing the answer.

I’ve used it the same without it, but it blows to decide not to be VIP anymore and realize you’ve hit your limit of mutes.

The only benefit I see, is to be able to see who down voted my post or comment, but in reality it really doesn't matter to me.
