Yes, years ago, I had to get a new Driver's license and I could either renew it via mail or get an upgrade to the Real ID if I came into the office.
And at that time, I had to travel for work, so it seemed like I would have to get the Real ID at some point.
Though I still don't understand how the real one is any realer than the previous ones...
Supposedly they were impossible to copy and forge... and yet amazing quality fakes one from China were caught being shipped to the greater NYC area before the real ones were legally available for any public citizen.
