I have a question for all the builders here.

My house is old, my floors aren't all level. But if I hire you to replace a floor in one room, should it be level when it's finished? Or am I paying just to rip up the subfloor and lay a new subfloor thats not level like it was?

I bought a house where part of the floor is clearly replaced and it has a terrible lean on it.
I also paid for a couple of 'professionals' to replace my facias and I was pissed off with how they did it and some damage they did to the rest of the house but denied. The job they were paid to do was ok.
If I have to get any workers in again I shall write my own contract to which they must adhere before allowing them on site. If I were to write your contract I would include that 'the floor when completed must be level to <stipulation>'. And also from my own experience 'Any damage incurred by <builders> during the work must be rectified.'
This is just a sketchy requirement and it's a shame that these must be produced but there are too many bad workers today.

@GeniUs I guess if I ever hire someone again I'll have to do that. He's even damaged my bathroom sink cabinet and it looks terrible. He first put the sink about 1' from where it should be, and caulked it. When I told him he wasn't happy but he moved it back. Now the caulking is on the wall and smeared on the cabinet. He kicked the bottom of the cabinet in and is going to put trim over it. I see cracks on the side of the cabinet because it's made of pressed particle board. I told him to be careful when me moved it but he didn't care. He won't replace my cabinet I'm quite sure. And he blames is uncompatant side kick for everything.

@melissa001 Some workers just don't care, I actually feel I have to watch them all the time and next time I'm withholding part of the payment until I've had a good time to inspect the work because they rush you to sign it off and also hide things which you can't inspect properly until they've gone.

@GeniUs I will to. I'm pretty good with a hammer and nail and I've fixed a lot of stuff in my house. But having to repair something he did wrong is beyond my comprehension. And he always has an excuse.
