Users of SW - Genuine question

For those who really try hard to be someone they found on facebook or instagram.

Whats the drive? I understand there’s a commendable effort being put forth in doing this but what is it exactly that you get from this?

Not a shot at you either. This is really a question I’ve wondered for years here.

Is it an emotional thing? Sexual? Scam?

I am not the person but from what I’ve observed. There a couple of reasons imo. One is sexual/kink , and I think this is the major one. As some guys love to impersonate women and get off on it. The other reason is scam, as we’ve had a few episodes here. And a third reason is to feel liked , wanted by others etc.

I think they may be lonely and just want people to talk to them and say nice things to them.
I could be wrong and there's always an exception to every rule.

Maybe a fantasy thing.

I'm here to know the same thing. I actually made a post about this: Why would someone catfish someone else? I mean, when a guy compliments the picture, what does the person who catfishes get out of it?

What do you mean “be the person”?

Be someone they aren’t? Or emulate someone else?
They try be who they think people will like.
They're not happy with who they are themselves.

I don’t understand this either. Maybe they are lonely and think the person they are isn’t worthy of attention so they pretend to be someone else.
