I鈥檝e been separated for about 5 years and it鈥檚 not good being alone at Christmas
Padfoot31-35, F
@Frankie13 No, it isn't. I'm thankful for my family.

Many years ago I lost my husband and our young son two weeks before Christmas. Christmas has been difficult since then, but now, my parents, who helped me survived that, are frail and my mother鈥檚 been ill for the last couple of years. Dementia has robbed us of her cheerful spirit, and she鈥檚 been in the hospital since before Thanksgiving. She鈥檚 stopped speaking, so I couldn鈥檛 even hear her voice when I called.

I'm not sure what has happened in your world but this will be my first Christmas a widower. My 31-year-old incredible woman passed last year of a pulmonary embolism at 31 years.

@HootyTheNightOwl Thank you for your kind words. I have just now stopped crying at every tv commercial, , song, and rainbow I'm certain you understand. I'm sad for your loss but you and it seems all of us are pretty strong. Take care of your people.
@gdon39 It's a slow process when it comes to grief. All that we can do is take it day by day until the pain eases somewhat.

I didn't even want to decorate the house this year - but soon to be ex took over that.

I also lost all my traditions this year, too, since soon to be ex decided that we didn't have enough gifts for me to do what I did in memory of my grandfather and take a gift to bed with me to represent the gift my mother used to leave on my bed for as long as I can remember.

That was rough for me.

One thing that might help you is to start a collection of special Christmas ornaments that you can add to every year. I'm collecting Disney themed ornaments in memory of my mother. This is my first piece...

@gdon39 I鈥檓 so sorry. 馃ズ
No, it's my first Christmas without my mother...

@HootyTheNightOwl I know losing my woman will be the most tragic thing ever in my life. However, Losing your mom, my mom scares me and I don't know how you girls have held it together.

I am somewhat okay because I have told my mom exactly what she has meant to me. She is my mentor and leader in life. I'm just okay with having told her all the amazing things about her.

Be strong today.
@HootyTheNightOwl It's my first Christmas without my mom too. Stay strong 鉂わ笍
@gdon39 We're strong because we have to be. She has her daughter who needs her... and I have to be strong because that's all I've ever been. I know that if I break, then everyone else will, too.

I've been through some beatings at the hands of my father and only broke once when he went to far. If I can do this, I can do just about anything...

@MrBlueGuy Thank you, it helps to know that I'm not alone in trying to find this new normal.

I have actually gotten closer to some friends in the months since my mother passed away - so it feels like I lost my mother, but gained a new family, too.

They were supposed to be coming over today, but one of their daughters found out that she has Covid19 this morning... so they had to isolate instead.
