The answer is Gerald Ford. I'm no big shot, but when I was in High School, he came to my home town to campaign. We got the day off from school and I wandered to the general area of the appearance. It was a case of being in the right place at the right time. To my great surprise, he walked by my area of the crowd and as the Secret Service made a path through the crowd for him, he reached out and grabbed hands, including mine.
