Watching the Trooping of the Colour for the Queen's anniversary.

Nobody does pomp like the British. That aside I remember when as a young second lieutenant I was given the honor of being the colour escort in a Canadian version of the Trooping of the Colour. It remains a deep honour to be the colour escort during the Trooping Ceremony. It is a once in a lifetime event. Too bad the Lt Gov showed up drunk to take the salute.

I'm ex-RN, where our traditions differ slightly but the principle of our oath of loyalty is very common: to serve The Queen and defend Her subjects, wherever they may be.
That's why I ended up in 1982 fighting a lot of young Argentinian lads who didn't want to be on a rock in the South Atlantic in the pissing rain anymore than we did.
