Dr. King’s Final Speech

[image/video - please log in to see this content]

On this day in 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech at the Mason Temple in Memphis. Sadly, it proved to be his last speech, and he was assassinated the following day.

King touched on a number of topics during his address to the gathering, including freedom of speech and the right to protest. That part of his speech (presented in the short video above) has largely been overshadowed by other things he said that night.

Back in early Feb my wife & I took a road trip and stopped at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. It was created in 1991 out of the old Lorraine Motel where MLK was assassinated. It is devoted the people who marched and demonstrated and sat in and worked for civil rights and equality. Very powerful. And one MLK quote still sticks in my head and resonates today.

@ElwoodBlues I've been to Memphis but didn't get around to visiting the museum. Won't make that mistake again if I ever go back to the city.

That's a great quote. It definitely continues to resonate.
