Martin Luther King [I Think Martin Luther King Was A Great Man]

Ever since I can remember, this song by U2 was/is my all time favourite from their entire catalogue. MLK "Martin Luther King," is this haunting melody that commands an awe inspiring silence within me, where I am internally forced to acknowledge and respect a man so great, yet so gentle in his approach towards adversity.

I hope you enjoy both versions.

I loved that song, and the whole Rattle and Hum era!! What power and consciousness and authenticity and the playing is so fine right from those expert hands and throats right into the soul!!
@Iwillwait I do like some songs after the Unforgettable Fire, just not as strongly I suppose ... I even bough the All That You Can't Leave Behind[/i CD from 2000, surprisingly, from which I really like the songs "New York" and "Beautiful Day"

In the US at least, there were two good tracks on a short EP ([i]Wide Awake in America
)that appeared between The Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree LP's, "The Three Sunrises" and "Love Comes Tumbling"

There's a B-side from the Joshua Tree era called Spanish Eyes" which I like for instance, the live version of "Bullet the Blue Sky" from Rattle and Hum, and "Zoo Station" could be the only song I like on Achtung Baby, in spite of it being a completely different sound than what I was used to from U2 ... then I think a couple of other 90s songs were okay, "Lemon" and "Mofo" and another 2000s song was good, "City of Blinding Lights"

I think after The Joshua Tree that Larry Mullen's classic drumming era was largely over though, more of the songs started to sound the same with the drum track at least, he really didn't even have to show up it could've just been a drum machine

still is .. even dead his messages reach people

@markinkansas Thank you brother, I agree.
for me it is always a toss up as to whether this album, or the Boy album, is their best

I never liked them as much after the Unforgettable Fire

@ThirstenHowl I like most of the efforts up to Joshua Tree, Rattle & Him and Achtung Baby have some good cuts too.
WOW I've never heard this before, truly beautiful and a fitting tribute to MLK. Tragically, I don't think we will see "his dream" in our lifetime.
@Iwillwait You're right, naysaying doesn't inspire noble movements, maybe the horror of the past 4 years will kindle a fire of compassion and change.

The dream must be kept alive...and we must always keep hoping.

@Iwillwait What do i mean !? Well , we get lost in silence .... or we find our true selves .... We enter the silence as an escape maybe .... ...... Many " languages " silence has to " talk " to us ..........
