Congratulations to Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and all Democrats.
In Australia, 70% of us prefer the Democrats. We find it far easier to trade and relate with the USA when the Dems are in power. And we believe it will help to bring the USA back into agreements for international cooperation on reducing global warming and transitioning to renewable energy. The whole world now has hope.
I don't envy the Joe and the Dems the difficulty of the task ahead. The fact that Covid has taken off during the presidential campaigns and is now rising exponentially, is going to mean some very hard and unpopular decisions will have to be made to get it back under control.
And Joe and Kamala will have to do their best to try to bring unity and cooperation to the whole country - which will mean listening to the needs of all constituents, not just their own base. With such division in the country, that will be an immensely delicate balancing job. I hope they use consultation and negotiation as their means.
