I Hate Donald Trump

Dear Mr so-called president........

"I know, too, that you’re accustomed to being emperor of your own fiefdom. Must be nice. Your name on the wall, the paychecks, the side of the building. You tell people to make something happen, and it does. You yell at a problem, and it goes away. Nobody talks back. I can see how it would be hard to give that up.

But you did. You see, you’re no longer an emperor, Mr. So-Called President. You’re now what is called a “public servant” — in effect, an employee with 324 million bosses. And let me tell you something about those bosses. They’re unruly and loud, long accustomed to speaking their minds without fear or fetter. And they believe power must always answer to the people. That’s at the core of their identity."

I actually agree with everything you say here, except the adjective "so-called". Whether anyone likes it or not, Donald Trump is the duly elected President of the United States. I will support him when I agree with his actions and oppose him when I do not. Either way, he is our president and, yes, I am accustomed to speaking my mind. Lol, I think you know that about me. 😁

Sara, he's as much a "so-called" president as Judge Robart is a "so-called" judge

@room101: Judge Robart is a duly appointed and confirmed sitting United States Federal Judge. He is not a "so-called" judge. And President Trump (who I did not vote for) is the duly elected President of the United States. The offices in which each of them sit entitle them both to the respect of the office.

We can oppose their ideas (and I oppose many of President Trump's ideas), we can oppose each other, but I believe we should do so with mutual respect.

@sarabee1995: there is no lack of respect here. But I would suggest that you give your lessons on the federal judiciary, what it means to be elected and what constitutes respect to that nasty piece of work that is currently occupying your White House.

@room101: Does his lack of respect justify the same from others? (And yes, there certainly is a lack of respect inherent in the term "so-called")

@sarabee1995:

I’m a bit confused by the wording of your responses.

My post is an excerpt from an article, by Leonard Pitts Jnr, in the Miami Herald. I’m not trying to distance myself from his words but perhaps some clarification is required. I thought that I had been clear enough by putting those words in quotation marks and italics. I also provided the web link to the article.

When I use a phrase like “there certainly is a lack of respect inherent in the term so-called”, I do it because I think that perhaps the person that I’m talking to either doesn’t understand the full impact of his or her words or, is being obtuse and using passive/aggressive syntax.

I know the lack of respect inherent in the term “so-called” and there is nothing passive/aggressive in my usage of the term. I’m pretty certain that Mr Leonard Pitts Jnr also knows what the phrase means and is using it accordingly. Just like you and I, he too, is speaking his mind. Which is exactly what the free press is supposed to do. Regardless of Trumps machinations to have them do otherwise.

As to your question of:

Does his lack of respect justify the same from others?

I’ll repeat what I said in a previous discussion on SW. This also answers the question posed by RachelBear.

Trump and his supporters represent everything that I find most abhorrent in the human condition. To me, they are the most malignant of cancers. A cancer which is hell-bent on destroying everything that I value, believe in and have fought for throughout my entire life.

Sara, can you show respect to the very thing that you most abhor? To the thing that you have always fought against?

I can’t. I won’t.

@room101: I'm pretty sure I didn't imply in anything I said here that these were your words. I know you were quoting an article. [c=#003BB2]"Does his (Trump's) lack of respect justify the same from others?"[/c] -- I am referring to the author of the article and all of us who engage in political discourse.

Also, I felt compelled to explain the inherent disrespect in "so-called" because you said, [c=#003BB2]"there is no lack of respect here."[/c] I feel there is and I'm glad now to see you agree.

There is lack of respect (a lot of it) from the Trump administration and there is lack of respect from his political opposition. We should be able to be adults about our political disagreements. Maybe that's just me being naive.

@sarabee1995: I may have got confused because you start by saying "I actually agree with everything YOU say here.....".

Anyway, I don't think that you're being naive. You're being you, a person with a positive outlook and integrity. And when I said that there was no lack of respect, I meant my respect for you.

@room101: Our mutual respect was never in question here (at least I hope not). ☺
