If you can't spend it on what you like, more US firms should get that money! No Chinese EVs!

Trump doesn't know the difference between Bombardier, and its Global Express models. He demanded that Bombardier "must build here" to sell in the U.S.. Fact-checkers immediately highlighted that Bombardier already has a massive American footprint, including a defense facility in Wichita, Kansas, and wing manufacturing in Red Oak, Texas and that his tales of Canada blocking Gulfstream are either outright lies, or massive exaggerations.

This is not for the economy and certainly not for the US economy.

@Northwest Has he no-one on his staff to inform him? Are there no official registers set up to inform politicians and civil-servants of companies' ownerships, lines of business and locations ?

@ArishMell
Has he no-one on his staff to inform him?

The point is that he made himself the subject matter expert. He added anecdotes about having this conversation with a friend who is smart, but very fat...
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Northwest It suggests he is afraid to admit he does not know everything about anything. Digressing into a friend's physique might suggest losing the ability to concentrate. (A friend...still?)

No-one is a polymath, but most people have the humility and wisdom to know that, and to ask advice. Indeed, we would expect national leaders to do that as a matter of course.

Governments have all manner of specialists they can ask. In the UK and I think USA too this includes special cross-party committees established to seek the professionals' technical advice directly. I don't know if members are selected as already having some relevant background so the committee can ask sensible questions.

Saw this on the news this morning. The Canadian government has to respond.
