And about 30% of Americans are going to believe this..There is the human tragedy..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Ignoring the party-politics, does this mean nearly a third of Americans do not understand simple percentages?

By no means everyone is a born mathematician - I always struggled with sums and maths - but that suggest an unduly high proportion of the population not knowing what is really only simple arithmetic. Were they not taught %s at school?

@ArishMell Americans (many of them) have a different belief system. The only thing I can compare is that many hold a missionary zeal for the values they have been indoctrinated into.. And indoctrinated is the word. Just with some it doesnt stick.. For most of that group, thought isnt necessary. The leader they elected says it. Its true. As if the Pope said it to Catholics. Even now, in spite of everything Trump has done or more likely, failed to do, Hes the leader and they will follow as if he were the god king..In fact its not so far from the words of the Ayatollah being followed by The Faithful.. Disturbing..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I understand your explanation - thank you.

I wonder if for some voters loyalty to the Party is more important than to the President, if only because an individual President cannot serve for more than eight years in total, but the Party continues.

Also with basically only two parties to choose between, what do disaffected ones do? A few might switch sides completely, others will stay with "theirs" and hope for better times. They've no other options, short of abstaining from voting of course.

@ArishMell Again. Americans are "special". Some follow the cult of personality. Thats how celebrities get elected. If Kim Kardashian ran, she would get a following.. But equally many chose there Party the same way most choose a football team. Often because their father supported them. And it hardly matters what the party does. Its what they SAY they stand for..And in spite of one disaster after another, they wont switch their vote. The most they will do is stay home on the day. In my opinion, the problem starts and ends with money. But thats an argument outside this scope. Americans arent engaged in the process of government. They hire someone else to do it and hope for the best. Sometimes it works out..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman That "Oh our family has always voted for the XXX Party so I do too!" attitude used to be common in Britain too, but that was probably when the parties were much more clearly defined in ideology and policies; and the communities they represented were more tightly-knit.

It may still happen but to nothing like the same depth.

@ArishMell The humourous thing to me is the idea that the Democrats are in any way Socialist, when its the Republicans that want to give away all the money to farmers and every business group that cant make enough profit to bribe their Congressman or senator.. In truth America has two right wing parties, by world standards. And good government lies in the chasm in between them that no one represents..😷
