Politics-Common Sense Advice

I am offering common sense advice. Please don't discuss politics when you are travelling especially when you don't know all the facts. Who does btw?

i just came back from Asia. Day 2 a Canadian started arguing over how insulted she was that Trump would actually think they would want to merge with us. Her next statement was how "qualified" her PM was. And how dare the US charge THEM tariffs. Afterall, Canada is our biggest customer"

Ok, i tried to take the high road but if you know me, it did not end well at all.

You were likely talking to someone from Ontario whose fame for being anti American goes back to the American Revolution. Canada is a funny place. Those whose ancestors were driven out of the US at the time of renovation hate the US and think themselves superior. Those whose ancestors moved from the US to Canada because they saw greater opportunity (Albertans) have a much friendlier view of the US. Of course that sets off a struggle here in Canada because many in Ontario view Alberta as being American. As an Albertan whose paternal ancestors came north I have no desire to become American. I don't want to remain Canadian either because I want to have a more independent government much more responsive to the local needs. For me to switch one capital (Ottawa) to another (Washington) won't solve the problems we Albertans are facing.
