When discussing with MAGATs whether or not the "gift" of a luxury Boeing from Qatar to Trump was a bribe...

...(btw a $500 million "gift" to ANY political leader, let alone the POTUS, is not a gift, it's a bribe), it's funny how many of the so-called "rational" MAGATs say we should simply "agree to disagree".

No. We're not disagreeing about anything here. There's nothing to disagree about. You are simply ignoring reality because it does not conform to your bias.

Actually the airplane if accepted would go to the Department of Defence and as such would not benefit Trump personally.

@hippyjoe1955 But it will be ONLY Trump who will benefit from a luxury new AF1 while in office. No other president will. So you have to ask yourself: Why was this given for Trump's EXCLUSIVE use as president?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@iamthe99 And in a few years when Trump is no longer POTUS......
iamthe99 · 36-40New
@hippyjoe1955 Then Qatar will have to think of another way to buy influence with the new administration in 2028.

Besides, the Emoluments clause specifically forbids this. However, we know Trump has no problem with breaking the law, either now or in the past.

@iamthe99 I would rather doubt that Trump would use that airplane anyways. It takes time to reconfigure an aircraft to AF1 standards. They would have to strip it completely looking for bugs etc. Then rebuild it to AF1 standards.

@hippyjoe1955 The Emoluments Clause forbids this anyway, so Trump would be breaking the law by accepting this unless Congress approves it.

@iamthe99 I'm not a lawyer so I will defer to your TDS law review knowledge. I am not a Trump fan but I don't suffer from TDS either. I am simply looking at the big picture. AF1 is not the personal property of the President nor does he gain any personal benefit from it. The Air Force is to have an aircraft capable of being AF1 on standby to fly the President to where ever he wants to go. It doesn't have to be a 747 but it does have to be up to AF1 standards. Huge amount of technology involved in keeping the POTUS safe. So do you suppose the reason they are looking for a new aircraft is because they rushed Biden back to Washington after he collapsed in Las Vegas. Reports were that they were flying so fast that he aircraft was shaking which weakens the structure of the aircraft.

@hippyjoe1955 That's as maybe. So why does Qatar, in its munificence, decide that the creaky old AF1 needs replacing, and chooses now, just after Trump announced a new $5.5 billion golf course would be built in Qatar, to "gift" him a brand new aircraft to be used by him and him alone?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@iamthe99 From what I heard and again just news reports not facts. Boeing can't build a 747 in time or at a reasonable cost. How Qatar got involved I have no idea.
iamthe99 · 36-40New
@hippyjoe1955 No indeed. No one knows why they got involved. We'll leave it at that.
@hippyjoe1955 riding in a sky palace doesn't benefit your Uber lordly mentality at all.
