@beermeplease I rather hope he doesnt express an opinion on global affairs - but just to point out a soccer world cup is a big deal to everyone else except the USA. Its just a small buisness venture in the US - the rest of us understand that.

@beermeplease Of course he can. But at this point in the timeline, anyone in Western Europe and in particular, the UK have demonstrated again and again, they have no realistic perspective on American politics, therefore I take their contributions to that with a hefty dose of salt and skepticism.

@SumKindaMunster Trump is inflicting his will on the rest of us. We have every right to argue back. The world cup is ours as a planet - and less the USs because most of your arent even interested in it. Ukraine should belong to the Ukranians and now through Trump and Puting bullying it, the US has half its resource wealth and Russsia has a chunk of its land - and you sit there as the USA and say "accept that because we and Russia are stronger than you. When are you going to see yourselves for what you are and are becoming under Trump ?

Trump and America are telling the rest of the world that America is no longer your resource for cheap goods and free money. We also are no longer taking in the 3rd world, something you should agree with and care about considering your country is well on its way to becoming South Africa with its unfettered immigration and celebration of fringe identity politics.

You should be spending your time in your own country's politics, not America's.

If all you care about is America why did you do a deal with the Ukraine on minerals. theturth is all you care about is yoursleves and being selfish and it will do you no good in the long run - or even the short run.

@carpediem Some of what you say is true. The UK only put in tarrifs because we joined Europe. We know far better than you do how difficult it is to deal with the French however. They actually consider you to be mates btw. But the real outrage is telling us we cant deal with China and then putting in tarfiis even though wew run no surplus with you. Betrayl of a friend and ally. It has an ugly look about it.

Yes, I know what you mean. The UK has had a 10% tariff on all US vehicles for many decades while the US had a 2.5% tariff. Is that the kind of betrayal you are referring to? Yes....ugly.

Look, I think it's entirely disingenuous to be upset with the US when trade has not been fair for a very long time. Although I agree with you that the US-UK trade balance has been close. As for Chinese goods, we're working a large deal. And if that means we need to bend a few arms to get what we're looking for, so be it. Again, look at what's been happening long term in this realm.

As for the French, I have business dealings with them IRL. Yes they're a bit wacky in their ways, but they are no more difficult than dealing with the Brits.

@carpediem And what about this issue of US Republican senators lobbying Biden to put pressure on us and European governments to cut trade links with China and make them with the US instead - no comment so far from any of you !
