Like a tradesman mistakenly sent there and who Trump will not bring back. Not a criminal, just a bureaucratic mistake, but gone forever as far as Trump is concerned.

I'd be very worried if I disagreed with him and lived in the US - the Land of the Free!
It's so sad that we're at this point where people are afraid to visit the country whose president was once known as "leader of the free world."

@Zeusdelight He was a citizen of El Salvador here illegally. He was given a temporary status to prevent deportation and he claimed asylum. His request was denied and he was deported to the country of his origin. It's unfortunate what happened, but let's not lose site of the fact that he was NOT an American citizen and was here illegally.

@SumKindaMunster He was not here illegally. Even the Government has said what they did was a mistake.

If he was here illegally they would not have admitted an error.

I do not lose sight of facts. I don't know where you get this information, but it is wrong.

@Zeusdelight Matt Taibbi and Racket News. The situation makes a lot more sense if you understand he isn't an American citizen, was here illegally, and is a citizen of El Salvador.

Abrego-Garcia left El Salvador and illegally entered the U.S. in 2011. His status as an illegal immigrant changed after he was arrested in 2019 and the Department of Homeland Security accused him of being a member of the MS-13 gang. Abrego Garcia fought the accusation and applied for asylum. Instead, an immigration judge granted him “withholding of removal” status.

A federal judge wrote in an April 6 opinion that in El Salvador “the Barrio 18 gang had been targeting him and threatening him with death because of his family’s pupusa business.”

The Justice Department argues its hands are tied. It doesn’t matter that the U.S. is paying El Salvador $6 million a year to house U.S. deportees at CECOT.

“The United States does not have control over Abrego Garcia. Or the sovereign nation of El Salvador,” says one court filing.

March 12-15, 2025

ICE agents stop Abrego Garcia and tell him that he is no longer under “withholding of removal” status. The Trump administration says he is a member of the MS-13 gang, which the president has designated a foreign terrorist organization.

Abrego Garcia, who denies he is part of MS-13, is sent to an ICE detention facility in La Villa, Texas, and from there he is deported to El Salvador on March 15 along with 260 others, primarily Venezuelan nationals. He is being held in CECOT, a prison that has a capacity of 40,000 inmates.

@SumKindaMunster I'm relying on most US lawyers and Government releases about the gentleman.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Zeusdelight You have any specifics to point to? Any names or quotes to attach to your absolute confidence in what you heard was accurate? It's pretty vague to say you got your info from "US Lawyers" and "Government".

Where do you think Taibbi got his info?
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster Well given some of his reviews chat about him being a Gonzo journalist, I don't have a clue. My sources are Tik Tok lawyers that meet as lawyers and discuss these things, referring to various judge's obiter dicta and other comments.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Zeusdelight Lawyers on Tiktok eh? K.

Taibbi gets his info from the government, court filings and publicly available information.

You must admit, the situation makes a lot more sense if you acknowledge he was in the US illegally, and he is a citizen of El Salvador.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster Yes, many situations make more sense if you ignore the facts.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Zeusdelight I'm sorry you are taking this so poorly. Like many stories before it that have been corrected, you likely will have forgotten this one when it inevitably gets debunked.

Apparently you get your facts from lawyers and judges on TikTok so I'm not concerned with your condescension.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster my condescension- from a bloke who reacts laughingly to any comment.

If you keep up with a balance of News you will see how wrong you are and in what danger you are in.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Zeusdelight Sorry I offended you by confronting you on spreading misinformation.

I'm not really concerned about the opinion of someone who gets his news from Tiktok. It's just a giant confirmation bias feedback loop, but you seem to think you are privy to "the truth" through it.

Anything else?
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster you don’t know much about tik tok, do you.

You also do not any of my other sources and will never know. Good luck!
