Does the DOJ have to comply with orders from Federal Judges? I don't understand what's going on.

I understand that the DOJ is apart of the Executive Branch. However, I thought that the role of Federal Judges was to limit the power of the Executive and Legislative Branches to ensure laws comply with the Constitution. It seems like Trump is saying he can do whatever he wants.

Thats pretty much what Trump is saying, but his underlings have tried to offer various justifications which are less noxious.

The latest is that the three branches are meant to be "co-equal."

The practical effect is the same of course: Trump can do whatever he wants.
