@Activitykittens There’s a big difference in being in jail for a specified time than being in prison.

You guys don’t have a jail usually at the police station, where you hold people that have been arrested before appearing in court and being sentenced?
We do. And yes some have been punished in jail (not a federal prison) for x amount of days. And that’s usually combined with so many hours of community service.
Usually it is time credited where they have been locked up in jail and they subtract that time from a prison sentence.

@NoGamesTolerated Ah! We do have what we call "remand" but we usually call it jail and call long term sentences for convicted people jail too. We don't really use the words prison and jail differently
@NoGamesTolerated Also you don't get held in a court cell for very long after arrest. If you don't get bail you get sent to a real prison
