Apart from escalating a war when he should have de-escalated he was a very good president. Much better than Trump... although anyone would be. His oration skill was impressive.

That's what I thought you might say. This was the only way for us to refocus on the mission: capture Bin Laden within a specific timeframe, and failing to do that, de-escalate and start paving the road to pull American troops out.
The mission confirmed that Bin Laden and his group were no longer in Afghanistan. So he de-escalated, following the plan, and started looking for him elsewhere, and pulling American troops out of harm's way. The puling back intensified following Bin Laden's killing.
He drastically increased the number of troops in Afghanistan before regretting it and de-escalating.

Doing the surge, then scaling back, was what he PROMISED during the campaign.
