Didn't the Americans only join the allies after the Pearl Harbour attack?
They hated Hitler so much they didn't want to help before then.

@Entwistle At the time, Americans weren't on board with sending troops to die. WW1 was still fresh. There was also a law that prohibited the U.S. from getting deeply involved in foreign conflicts. FDR was able to work around it and released "help" to other countries in advance of the Pearl Harbor attack. Most notably for England.
