Why did 14 million Germans vote for Hitler, a nazi and a fascist murderer? Because they were worried about the economy and Hitler blamed the Jews,

and foreigners, disabled and homosexual. People believed him and they got angry. The Nazi Party was also more militant and angrier than any other party. They didn't recognize that hatred and blaming is never ok, and it leads to violence, and murder.

Your Churchill alleged quotation "not against Hitler or National Socialism but against the strength of the German people" appears to be a false quote.

(Allegedly 1955, in Emrys Hughes, British Bulldog, 145.) • Not in Hughes, nor anywhere else.

So neat trick, if you search for a quotation in Google, it will bring back pages in which that entire quotation is found. So I did that, and got this page.

Looking through the results, I see a Google Books result that sources the quotation to a work entitled Winston Churchill: British bulldog: his career in war and peace by Emrys Hughes. Unfortunately, when you use Google books to search that work for the quote, nothing shows (the word Jesuit, for example, comes up nill on the search).

But here is where I need to mention the problems I've encountered. The work that sources the quote to Hughes is by a man named Benton Bradberry, and reading the jacket of his book, it appears he's a Holocaust denier and Nazi apologist, so I can't say I trust anything he says without verification. Further, the fact that he's using the quote, attributing it to another work in which it does not appear to exist, suggests that there are real problems with the quotation.

I obviously haven't spent too much time searching, but the only "evidence" I can find supporting it comes from sources that are not trustworthy in the slightest (seriously, the number two search result is friggin' Stormfont). So I would error on the side of it being apocryphal until proven otherwise.

What the reddit guy is saying is that a book by a holocaust denier FALSELY quotes the Emrys Hughes bio of Churchill.

@pianoplayingsteve Years back when supervising an inventory count all of a sudden the client's employee doing the count opens his mouth "Hitler had the right idea". Shocked I said "what do you mean?"... "he was trying to get rid of all the Jews"... I did not respond I kept working but at lunch I reported what happened to my supervisor.. who had me tell the client GM.. what happened.. The guy was called into the GM's office and discharged right then and there - he never knew he was speaking to a Jew.. so ....People that justify why the holocaust happened, , then question how many Jews were murdered and then make light of it... need to meet a sticky end in unfavourable conditions.. and It would be my suggestion that you keep looking over your shoulder because the last thing you might ever here is a click... and it won't be of a camera shutter. Oh and get on your knees and start praying that you never meet me because that might be your worst nightmare...

@pianoplayingsteve You need to understand a few things.. Its not how many people were murdered in the holocaust that is the issue... Murder six million people is not the same as murdering six million Jews - because that represented half of all the Jews in the world then.. To put it in perspective that would be like murdering half of all Americans 175 million people or 500 million Chinese... you seem to think in terms of a number not in terms of how many there were or how many remain... Jews constitute 0.2% of the worlds population and when one is murdered well that happens to count for a LOT.. why ? Jews have for instance garnered over 30% of all Nobel prizes.. How many Einstein's were murdered in the Holocaust? How many will never be born? On the basis of criminal effect this crime will go on for all generations so when an asswipe like you comes along - yes you need to be dealt with extremely harshly and severely... and honestly I am ok with that...

@pianoplayingsteve No, but I think there's a consensus in international law that genocide is a separate crime; not equal to a sum of murders. It's one of the crimes against humanity; perhaps the worst of them.

There are five thousand non-Jews for every Jew... . there are so few to start with that to loose one is proportionately that big a loss... Now given the outsized productivity and contributions to the betterment of mankind well it is even worse than the numbers suggest..
