Putin appears to be betting that public outrage at Ukraine will be dwarfed by public anger at leaders unable to organise stable and cheap energy

What do you think? How does this play out?

Usually with unintended consequences. I see potential for Putins gambit to push down global demand for gas and speed development and deployment of alternative energy supplies, weakening his position in the long term. Just as his cover of keeping the Ukraine out of NATO has pushed Finland and Sweden to actually join.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman IF Ukraine survives this war it is a safe bet they'll be joining NATO.

@Crazywaterspring Its probably the best way to get a much needed "Marshall Plan" style rebuilding program..😷

I think Putin clearly mistakes the resolve of Europeans, while the younger Generations have known peaceful times, their parents will remember the Iron fist of the Soviet Union and how many Countries suffered under their rule, they will put up with a lot to bring Putin down, much like Ukraine is doing...

@jshm2 if he doesn't care what anyone thinks of the situation in Ukraine, why shut down the news media even in Russia, call it a special military operation instead of a war, and make claims about liberating cities that have clearly been demolished? You have a very misguided view on world politics if you think leaders don't need to manage perception

It will work in the US. Just look at SW. Putin was thrilled with Trump, and rising prices, driven to extremes by fuel prices, is going to flip the US Congress this November to Trump because, you know, it's Biden's fault.
