The sheer number of people who are substance dependent

it's just more evidence that quality of life isn't improved in a meaningful way by material gains.

It doesn't really matter too much where you live, you're all suffering. Some are just a little more fooled by whatever pipe dream tells them it can improve. You won't get better since your pain is a result of a relative lens. The happiest people are those who do not want. And you don't get there by satisfying some silly triangle.

while I agree with some of that, I think the first statement is a leap in logic.

Because more material gains and substance abuse aren't always related.

@Miram what do you mean?

For instance cocaine is cheaper than half loaf of bread in production regions..add slavery and child labor..

It is not really richness or wellness that give access to addictions.

@Miram oh that's not what I was conveying. I'm pointing to something different, that socioeconomic provisions don't really make a difference for the health of society at large. Like how Europe is filled with substance abuse despite its outreach to communities because people always want more.
