Thank you for your service

[media=https://youtu.be/2k81wARA7Nw]

Whenever people find out I'm a veteran they say, thank you for your service. Which always makes me feel uncomfortable because I didn't do anything but make it back in one piece.

I always think about how many people out there are so much more deserving than I could ever be, of the Thank you for your service thing.

That said, i want to say thank you to...

Teachers

Nurses

Doctors and paramedics

Firefighters

Vets and Animal shelter workers

Police officers

EMTs and ambulance crews

Social workers

Caregivers

Search and rescue volunteers

Utility workers (power, water, gas restoration)

Postal workers

Farmers and agricultural workers

Truck drivers and delivery workers

Public bus drivers

Air traffic controllers

911 dispatchers

Volunteer firefighter

Librarians

Scientists

Learning support assistant

But mostly to hospice workers who deal with death and suffering family members on a daily basis. You guys are true heroes. I could never do what you do.

If you, here on SW , are one of these guys.

Thank you for your service.

Great post and video, love how they appreciated people who drive garbage trucks because they go through a lot. People say that all the time and I feel awkward personally saying it to anyone, mostly because people are people, someone's job still doesn't tell me much about them. I am empathetic though as I know war can cause trauma and I wouldn't wish things on anyone. If a veteran wants to talk about their life experiences, I'll listen but if I don't know them, that's what I have a hard time with.

I like to think of the Vietnam war and a serial killer who said his uncle first exposed him as a child to pictures he took of the war prisoner females he'd torture and k ill. That's when it clicked for him and he started torturing animals.

I'd hate to thank someone for their service while they out doing stuff like that, could imagine the irony of someone thanking someone and they were like with fascist death squads or something.

I'm not saying that's you, I just have a hard time trusting anyone for that reason unless someone is honest enough to tell me about themselves, only then I can thank them.

Well we can't make assumptions of the whole from extreme cases.
Whenever I meet a teacher I do express my appreciation for what they do. And I don't think I need to talk about how many messed up teachers are there.
I think some jobs require a little more than what they get paid.
Dedication maybe?
Something that entails a certain level of service and commitment to the betterment of all of us.
I understand why people say thank you for your service. It's a way to say they recognize what you do and appreciate that you are or did do it.
It just makes me feel awkward personally. But that's just me cause it makes me feel shy and I don't know what to say.
But I get it.

Love this. Do you recommend something to say to a veteran other than thank you for your service?
TheHammer · M
@Akimbo75
And before I know, I'm involved in the internet fight of the century arguing about something that had nothing to do with the post.😊

@TheHammer Don't let the bastards grind you down

Nope,
Also, those with balls don't talk about them cause they know they got them. Just saying
Floki · M
@TheHammer 😂 Brother I asked if you had balls, not for the ancient wisdom of the testicles.

This almost reads like a beautiful prayer of thanks. What a nice reminder that our world is filled with goodness.

It's easy to forget those who really deserve the credit they are rarely getting.
