Happiness is infectious! A good type thing to catch! You should smile more and help someone else feel happy! It's a simple gift to give, and it's a neighbourly thing to!

In the USA its too forced. Both smiling and that forced-happiness thing (Read Barbara Ehrenright for that stuff!)It seems strange to Europeans (from reports I've read) and probably most others.
Its not ok to make people think they are UGLY unless they smile.
Or worse to make women think there's something wrong with them if they don't smile for some passing strange male guy.
This never happens the other way around. In fact I think the going meme is scowling men are sexy but scowling women are dykes
