UK cities could be so beautiful if only people didn't drive on the left. 😑

@helenS I live here. I have driven across alot of Europe in a right hand drive car from the uk. But must admit i loved drive on the right side. You just HAVE to remember not to forget lol.

@helenS We sometimes drive on the right, just for fun. You are now twinned with Lancaster, pop. 138,375. Home of the Red Rose and a castle on the River Lune.

@Lugwho Cardiff would have been my favorite, or Aberystwyth (spelling?), but – anyway, thank you, I guess 😏 🌷
helenS · 36-40, F
@Perry1968 I almost had a terrible car crash in Merry Old England because I forgot... 😬
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS You're welcome. Cardiff has already gone, and Aberystwyth isn't a city. You'll be fine with Lancaster.

@Lugwho What's a city, in the UK? Is there an official definition?
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS Yes. It has to be awarded city status by the King, or Queen. Most have cathedrals, but there are some cities without cathedrals, and some towns with cathedrals. They often give city status to commemorate significant dates, luke the Queen's platinum jubilee.

@Lugwho Got it, thank you! I wish the Aberystwythians (English?) had a good connection to the British Royal family...
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS I think they'd prefer a Welsh Royal family.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Lugwho Ok I was in Aberystwyth some years ago, and there was this lady who asked me if I liked it. And I said "England is really beautiful!" ==> icy silence 😐
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS I can imagine. It was probably my next door neighbour. They moved here from Aber.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Lugwho One of the neighboring towns it "Barmouth", and I liked that even more. In fact I loved it. I felt rather sad when I had to leave.
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS It's a nice stretch of coast. I liked Aberaeron and Llangranog, opposite direction to Barmouth.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Lugwho ... the names of some towns are a bit... ermmm... rough on the tongue.
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS Yes, some can be tricky. I found Machynlleth pretty difficult. But then some German place names are a challenge too.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Lugwho "Oberammergau", for example, or "Castrop-Rauxel", or "Schmedeswurtherwesterdeich" 😌
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS Schwäbisch Gmünd is another. Titisee always gets a giggle from English speakers.

@helenS There is one called Wank too, might be in Germany. We stopped to get a photo by the road sign once.
Perry1968 · M
@helenS Oh god. Be careful if you ever come back. Lol. Its easy to momentarily forget.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Perry1968 It was really terrible. Early in the morning, I had slept in my car, and I thought I should drive to next town to buy something for breakfast. The weather was great, I looked forward to the grocery store, and, of course, I drove on the right... until I saw that other car... 😕
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS I used to drive on the right a lot when I travelled for work. The only time I drove on the wrong side was when I got back to Edinburgh once.
