The day in ‘69, Denver. I was approached by a small elderly man who asked to shake my hand. I was in my Air Force uniform. He said he wanted to shake the hand of an American serviceman. He said he was grateful for the U.S. military and honored those who fought and died in his country as he put it, “ Saving France from the Nazis.”
I was humbled, 19 yrs of age. I will take that memory until my last breath.
