One of my coworkers is 18. He’s the owner’s grandson and has been a pillar there as long as I have been. He’s a good kid. A really good kid and has seen me in vulnerable moments when I was unmedicated and having trouble maneuvering through my cancer journey (not something I’m proud of).
But there were four of us working the long 10:30am-8pm shift today, two of which are new at this. Like, they’ve only been in their positions for a few weeks. One of the new members happens to be his ex girlfriend. It’s taking her a bit to really get it down, but that’s to be expected given how much is involved with this type of work. But she’s super sweet and a hard worker who constantly makes him smile, which I welcome 100%.
I don’t know their story, but I do know he showed me a picture of her last year, and my first thought was of how pretty she was.
Tonight after I got home, he shot me a text and even though I knew his level of care in general, he completely blew my mind displaying the kind of heart he had.
I was preparing myself for…I don’t know. But it turned out to just be about spreading a little sunshine her way because the darkness has taken a hold of her a bit in her short existence. It just made me awe at this kid and restored a bit of faith in the younger guys of his generation.
@HikingMan Haha. Definitely not about them. That’ll end up taking care of itself. But will shine a little more light her way knowing the scars she has.
