I Try to Be Kind to Everyone

The last time I did something really life changing is earlier this year. I had a childhood friend, let's just call him Dan. He is a dwarf. I get along with him nicely and he's indeed a good friend. But my other friends are not so kind. Some completely ignore his existence due to his deformities. I never saw him after getting into tertiary institution. Some years later, we bumped into each other on Facebook. I chat with him whenever I'm free but mostly ignore his daily messages.

Sometime last year he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I was heartbroken. I wanted to say a final goodbye but my personal responsibilities hindered me. Dan asked for a date. Said it was his final wish. And how could I say no?

So off we went for one. He smiled and laughed the whole time. Never saw him more happier than that. We did turn a few heads. Maybe the sight of a normal woman holding hands with a stunted man is rare. He said that was his first ever date. And certainly the last😕

After holding hands throughout the day, he finally had the courage to slightly peck on my cheeks. I returned favor and said goodbye. Few weeks later he died with only his parents and me beside him.

This experience thought me cherishing friends when they're alive is more important than sobbing at their grave. Wish I had spent more time with my great friend.
