I Think Kind People Are Beautiful

I think kind people are beautiful.

Today I saw a nurses aide as she talked with an elderly woman. The old lady, probably in her 90’s was being combative and swearing at the aide...but the aide seemed to have patience beyond measure... because she just absorbed all that abuse and returned it with kindness, gentleness, and love.
It reminded me to show kindness to the next person I meet. There is a simple beauty in showing kindness to another person... I think kind people are beautiful!

This reminded me of my own grandmother. (I have written about her on here and EP) She didn't like my mother growing up. She was definitely her least favorite child (actually she only had heart for one of her children) but because she hated my mother I could tell she didn't like me growing up. For example as a kid I would get a pair of socks for Christmas and my brother the same, but my cousins would get Atari or other expensive gifts. Anyhow, when she got her illness my aunt and mother took turns living with her to keep her from dying in a care center (her wish) The stress took its toll on the siblings and they were unable to keep their promise. Although she was never kind to my mother, my mom really showed her a lot of kindness in her final years. My mother and my aunt both we're battling chronic illness themselves so I stepped in and took FMLA to be able to take care of my grandmother. Although I knew in her Lucid periods she despise me I still gave her the best care I could. I made sure that she was bathed everyday and that she ate nutritious food everyday and I colored with her, talked with her, play the piano, and did basically whatever she wanted to do. One of my cousins asked me how I could treat her with such kindness after she had been so mean to me most of my life. My answer was it was to honor my mother and it had nothing to do with my grandmother. Sometimes I think that you have to put your pride aside and be better to people then they are you. Maybe the CNA you're referring to has someone in her life that she is trying to honor in treating her patients in such a timely manner. I love kindness in people and I seek it out and I point out when someone is kind of me and I'm always grateful for it. There's not enough kindness in this world any longer and we need for more people to step up and set that bar higher.

I don't think she was kind so much as she was truly loving, how can anyone continue to be kind if not motivated by love & compassion?

Good words. Yes, it's possible to return abuse with kindness. But it takes a compassionate heart.
Thanks for posting.

@daydeeo you are right , it takes compassion... and it’s not easy .

I know. My own mother is slowly losing her grip. I know I should be more patient and compassionate. But it is indeed not easy.
