@SW-User Where I lived they were usually double-deck buses so we'd sit upstairs at the back. We didn't have school buses like they have in America, they were just ordinary public ones. They'd designate 2 or 3 to pick all the kids up from town drop them at the school base then pick us all up again at closing time.
Back then I'm not even too sure if people were still allowed to smoke on public buses, a lot of people did though so a few high school kids sat upstairs smoking during the school runs the driver would just turn a blind eye.
