I really feel like I'm starting to heal parts of me that used to be ashamed of my culture the older I'm getting and I love it.

Even down to wearing the clothes I grew up wearing and speaking more of the language I avoided speaking. It's no wonder I'm better at English now🫩I technically grew up with both languages at the same time. I wasn't introduced to one before the other but it's still in me and that's all that matters.

How df can I be ashamed of the beauty and art in this? The soul it carries is beautiful🥹 [media=https://youtu.be/r_lxE7kF0Fo]

This is the most important part of growing up is finding the beauty in some of the things that were imposed upon us, or even a source of trauma.
@CountScrofula yeah, it's a weird one. White supremacy on one side and Arab supremacy on the other.

Only one way of being British and only one way of being Muslim.

I don't really talk about the former points here because it's not the right audience. I will not find the answers here. The saviour complex annoys me. I do not need saving from my own identity. I need to come to terms with it in my own way.

YES SO MUCH. I think it’s beautiful how we come from such entirely different places but so much of what you have written about your experiences I could have written myself.

@HijabaDabbaDoo What are you talking about let me, as a white man, save you from your religious oppression because it's only a bad thing if you were just whiter your life would be better and you'd be freer
@SwampFlower I think a lot of people of colour can relate to this experience even if there's more beneath the layers that we can't understand. The feeling is universal but differently experienced.

LISTEN TO THIS. I find it healing 😌
