I Signed My Life Away

I have to get a new roof. My current roof is 16 yrs old but the insurance carriers down here will not insure us with a roof "that old" It was inspected and the report said it was in excellent condition, but the carriers go by the age.

Governor DeSantis has a grant program which i qualified for BUT I had to come up with close to 20,000. Hard but i did it. I had to pay up front first then get reimbursed $10,000.

Grateful for the grant but It will be a tough few months.

Had a home inspection last week on a duplex said it had about 10 years of life left ,it's about 2 years old..developer is putting on a new roof

@MarineBob we have a fraud crisis down here. we lost 7 carriers because public adjusters were filing false roof claims.

Insurance is legalized consumer fraud.

I am in the process of getting a roof repair due to storm damage. The insurance company wants to just patch repair but they cannot find matching shingles. So it appears that i will get a new roof. The new shingles are required to be of higher wind resistance then the 17 year old ones currently on the roof.

Of course the roofing contractors know this and have bumped up their charges.

And now SW is presenting ads for roofing systems.

@jim44444 oh no all the way around!! you can imagine the shysters down here. I have a small house but all the fascia has to be replaced and I chose cedar. i have to pay all that

I’d borrow $10,000 and pay it if when the grant money came in. $10,000 for a new roof is a great deal.
