It’s a secret weapon for mental health

You can’t be anxious, sad, angry or a host of other negative feelings, when you are sincerely practicing gratitude. Remembering what you are thankful for. It’s a gradual process to do it effectively - but it just takes the mindset to start and you’ll be shocked by it’s power

Agreed. I don't use a journal, but do this thing. I think about 3 things that I love & am thankful. Sometimes it's larger, but sometimes it's something as small as being able to sit and enjoy a cup of something.

@allincluded good practice. I make 3 lists of 3 every morning. Gratitude. Things I’m worried about and things I’m excited about. Love to watch items from columns two and three make it into the gratitude list. Shows progress. I’m working on 3 lists (a bit different) for the evening but it hasn’t hit me well yet)

@allincluded I read a story about 40 years ago. A woman had become a widow and was depressed. She decided to focus on the smaller things that she was thankful for. One day she had bought a candy bar and was eating it and thought of how good it tasted. She wrote a letter to the company to tell them how good the candy bar was. They wrote a thank you letter back to her and sent a case of the candy bars. It was just a small thing and she got rewarded but the story was mostly about gratitude. And I started doing something similar and was receiving things in the mail for awhile. I don’t think companies do this any more though.

@cherokeepatti I agree. I always try to be thankful for small things like that & let the company know. I don’t do it to get something back, but to let them know. I remember once I emailed Starbucks to let them know that the weekly mother/daughter date we have at our local coffee shop was the highlight of our week. She has a disability and it’s one of the places where she felt respected. They sent back a $5 gift card. :)

A gratitude journal is helpful where you write down things every day that you are grateful for adding to an ever-increasing list. If by chance something happens and you start feeling down because of it you can go read through your journal to get some perspective.
