I admit I'm lost in this new world

I lived on a farm in northern Sweden up by the Arctic Circle. When my mom wanted to ask her neighbor down the road something, she would write a note on a piece of paper, then walk down the road and put it in the neighbor's mailbox and put the red flag up.... 📫

When our neighbor eventually retrieved her mail, she would put the flag back down... 📪

My mom would then look up the road at her neighbor's mailbox with binoculars from an upstairs bedroom window and would yell down to my dad who was reading the paper in the living room, "...she got my message okay!".

Next day, the neighbor's reply to my mom would arrive in our mailbox... 📫

Yes and i know how, my mom used to tell me about a party line
