Pifco Model 971 Desk Lamp, Made in England, 1977

Older Brits may remember the 'Pifco' name. It was associated with a variety of small domestic electrical items, battery-operated camping lanterns, cycle lighting, hooters and various other things when I was young. They also produced this desk lamp, which I bought just before going to University in 1977.

I cannot establish the production dates of this model, but it was available for quite a long time; a yellow example found its way into the family home around 1964, and this orange example from years later is only superficially different. It has a heavy metal base and a flexible neck, also made of metal, with a light aluminium shade. This example needed work some years ago - a partial re-wire and (I think) a new switch. It now has a low-consumption bulb so the wiring doesn't get cooked again.

The 'Pifco' name ('Provincial Incandescent Fittings' from 1900, 'Pifco' from 1949) still has an online presence though the ownership of the name has now changed.
