You can be proud of something you have accomplished, or something you have created. You may be glad that you were born white, but your ancestors were black. The Homo Sapiens race originated in Africa; all humans on this planet have ancestors from Africa. I am considered "white" with blue eyes, and consider myself African-American. Just depends how far back you want to go.
But anyway, you can't be proud of something you had no control over.

@Father2 Just because the supposed 2.5million years old Lucy was found in Africa does not mean all hominids were from there.
