I Am Going to Say Something Controversial
Knowledge is a beautiful thing. It neither reflect one's mental capabilities or what one wishes to know. But knowledge obtained through hard work and perseverance, has never been taken for granted. Knowledge passed on from nowhere, but discovered, is priceless; this is the knowledge that I wish to gain.
There was no "Ah-ha" moment in my life that made me want to major in physics. I have always enjoyed math, but this skill seemed like it wouldn't have much benefit outside of school. For me, school had always been... interesting. I enjoy learning new material, but going home and having to practice it over and over again through the form of homework never sat well with me. I had already learned the material, why can't I test my understanding through form of in class experiment? Something that always bothered me about school, especially in my A.P. classes, is I find more and more students only wish to gain points to boost their grade as opposed to gaining true understanding of a topic. Unfortunately, I am the prime example of how you can understand a topic and ask meaningful and insightful questions in class and still fail the test. But I always got A's on the labs.
Real life is not testing your knowledge through bubbling in the correct answers on your scantron. Real life is not trying to set up the lab in your head. Real life is not a timed test. Real life is the experiment. The universe is a giant lab waiting for someone to discover the answers.
No one truly knows how the world works. Every physicist must make three assumptions. That the universe exists. That man can gain knowledge about the universe. And that man can test his assertions about the universe.
With these aside, man can know everything. No barriers exist. But to discover such things, I must obtain the fundamental knowledge that has already been discovered. I want the professors to pass this step on to me. Then, I wish to work in a lab and make my own discoveries.
