I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

Today's country music. Are they serious? Is there a point? We already had 80's pop -- in the 80's! When I want to listen to country music, which isn't that often, I want to listen to country! You know, Haggard and Jones. When I want to listen to 80's pop, I just play some 80's pop, turning on a country station doesn't even occur to me. This stuff stopped being country a long time ago.

I just feel all country fits into two categories:

"I love her" and
"She broke up with me"

Sing about something different for fuck sake. All the songs sound the same too

@Qwerty14 Er ... I think that's virtually all music except country that falls into those categories. Country songs are about trains, trucks, mama, prison, getting drunk, cowboys, and dead pets. Pop and rock are about love and romance. Hiphop is about seeing how offensive one can be, apparently.

@NorthernBear Hip-hop falls into 2 different categories. "I have real problems" and "I have too much money".

Pop is "Love love love" or "just dance and drink"

Rock can literally be anything. It is probably the most varying in the sense of song meaning.

But back to country. I think you'll find all those topics fit into love and heartbreak songs. If they're singing about a car it's about how they love it. They sing about a dead pet it's about heartbreak. One guy sang about how he loves Red Solo Cups. The genre is pretty stale

@Qwerty14 Honestly that has little to do with it. It is not much different here. The Nashville radio and CMT has watered it down.
Sorta like what happened to punk rock when Greenday and Avril Levine became "punk rock".
