By definition, yes, and you’ll be fucked when you encounter one. But the typical outlaw won’t be able to get his hands on a gun because they’ll be well out of his price range. In the end, your actual risk will decrease.

@QuixoticSoul enter stage left the black market. Some people call it spooky language but in my field (cyber security) we have done a lot of work with homeland security tracking gun runner logs.

@CoffinFeeder Turns out the economics of importing guns work very differently than drugs, with neither the demand nor the profit margins. The black market exists in every first world country with strict gun control, but prices tend to be stratospheric, and firearms become limited to organized crime groups.

Homeland security - you mean tracking our guns going to Mexico? Yeah, that's a bit different.

@QuixoticSoul I take it you e never seen an off-site auction bid on Tor?

@CoffinFeeder Yeah. Dark web prices tend to be high. There is a reason why a third of the shootings in the UK involve antique calibers no longer being produced, and it's not because guns are plentiful and cheap on the street. Shit, cops have seized flintlocks from gangs over there.

@QuixoticSoul a drug dealer has a far easier time getting the money to get a Tec9 which is illegal being banned by the 1986 automatic weapons ban than a law abiding citizen working 9 to 5 who can’t own automatics post 1986.

The dealer will spend a good 5 Grand on an unregistered automatic compared to someone who could legally buy let’s say a $40k M249 and have to have a tax stamp with it at all times and be obligated to have unwarranted searches from the ATF.

That’s beside the point because most of your firearm owners have a handgun for EDC, and a shotgun or AR15 for home defense.

@CoffinFeeder Tec9s are semi-auto and aren't banned under the 1986 act. Which is why they were commonly sold all through the late 80s and 90s. Hell, that weapon was only created in 1985, if it was covered under the '86 act there would be hardly any of them out there.

And dealers don't spend 5 grand on full-auto weapons, which is why virtually no crimes are committed with automatics these days.
