I Wish I'd Had a Late-Term Abortion Instead of Having my Daughter

Every imaginable kind of content warning for this article.

When people talk about 'late-term abortions' I see arguments where they fantasize about a world of irresponsible women who line up for abortions like someone is doling out candy, like it's a self-indulgent treat. The stories about why someone would have a late term abortion are nothing like that, and if people want to get passionate about this issue, hearing the story of someone who actually had one is the least you can do.

There is nothing that would justify a late term abortion for me.

@Imsleepy Read the article.

@CountScrofula Yeah, sorry. I don’t believe she went 8 months without knowing she was pregnant.
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@Imsleepy And YOU don’t have to have one. Nobody will ever make you have one.

@SmartKat What did you hope your comment would accomplish? Was it supposed to give me some revolutionary breakthrough or change of heart?

@Imsleepy Think about what I said, that’s all.
Imsleepy · 31-35
@SmartKat You stated an irrelevant point, though.

I think you should think about my intial comment before trying to sass me.

@Imsleepy I think your viewpoint is perfectly valid with the caveat that your decision is purely personal. You only cross a line if you wish to impose your personal choice on others.

@Imsleepy Google "Gave birth without knowing pregnant" and see how many hits for separate stories come up. It's unusual, but absolutely happens.

My point is that late birth abortions are often borne out of extreme circumstances, and are tragic, awful situations. People treat them like a vice, rather than an extreme medical situation.

@CountScrofula Okay, maybe I spoke too hastily. In my opinion, it would be used more as a vice than a potential life saving procedure. I’m 100% pro choice if done in a proper time frame. These late term abortions I’m at about a 1%.
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@Imsleepy It’s not irrelevant. IMHO, nobody should be forced to remain pregnant against their will AND nobody should be forced to have an abortion against their will. That’s why it’s called pro-CHOICE.
Imsleepy · 31-35
@SmartKat It is absolutely irrelevant in the context you used it in. I am pro choice. I’m not pro late term abortion.

@Imsleepy There may be certain diseases that you can't tell until the child is farther along. Especially if the child is going to not have their brain developed fully, have neurological issues, seizures, diabetes... I have a feeling they wouldn't be able to tell that right when the kid is a cell or only a few weeks along.

@CountScrofula There's also people who have had dead fetuses in their stomach and not know it. A dead fetuse was found inside a boy who complained of a stomach ache, inside a twin sister and inside a woman for sixty years.
