I Am Pro Choice

I was a teen mom, I could never personally have an abortion, because it just didn’t make sense to me, to get rid of it. It was my child, my responsibility, and no matter what society thought of me, I was keeping it.
But that doesn’t mean I am 100% pro life. I am pro choice, because I had the choice to keep that child or not, and I chose to keep it. But I couldn’t imagine myself having to go through with the pregnancy if I knew I didn’t want, love that baby. When it comes down to other people, I have no right to decide what other mothers should or should not do, neither do I have the right to shame them for it. And that’s why I’m pro choice.

I totally agree. Many people think pro-choice means “pro-abortion”. Some of us would not make that choice personally, but we still believe that the decision is solely for each woman or girl to make with her doctor, and no one else's business. 👍🏽

@bijouxbroussard I am against abortion personally but do not think it should be illegal--because I'm old enough to remember when it was.

This post is in memory of the girl in my high school class who died of a Tijuana backstreet abortion in 1962.
@greenmountaingal And to my cousin who committed suicide in 1971. She’d been raped by a 45 year old family “friend”, became pregnant and had no options. She was 12.

@bijouxbroussard Twelve years old! That is so sad. I am sorry to know her life was cut off so early.
