I Reject Obamacare

There are some who are too poor to afford to buy health insurance on their own who are also not sophisticated enough to figure out how to take advantage of the premium tax credit. The current law says those people need to be fined / "taxed". Who does that make sense to? Repealing the "individual mandate" should be the very least Congress does to fix the whole Obamacare mess. Why are people against that?

I heard on TV that 13 million people will lose health insurance
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
@Jakey75 I heard on TV that for only 19.95 I could get this great thing that will make my life better ...
TheProphet · M
@Jakey75 Only because they will be able to choose not to buy it.
Jakey75 · 61-69, M
@TheProphet what if they get sick and need care?
TheProphet · M
@Jakey75 Their choice not to buy. 13 million is only .038 percent of the population.
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
@Jakey75 What if the government decides that you must buy a car to relieve the burden on public transportation and fines you if you don't?
Jakey75 · 61-69, M
@GoodoldBob actually we should have single payer health care just like all the other advanced countries have. Obamacare is Just a first step in the right direction.
TheProphet · M
@Jakey75 We should never have that.
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
@Jakey75 Actually, no. Many of the people in those more "enlightened" countries are forced to travel (often here) because by the time they got in to see a doctor as part of their "free" health care system they would already have been dead.
Jakey75 · 61-69, M
@GoodoldBob that's actually right wing propaganda. Polls show that the overwhelming majority of folks in countries like the UK and Canada are very supportive of their health care systems.
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
@Jakey75 Actually, it is what I was told by a friend who is an administrator at a hospital on the other side of the Atlantic.
TheProphet · M
@Jakey75 Satisfaction wasn't the issue he raised. He is right about long waits and denied services. Besides who doesn't like getting what they think is free shit. They don't realize that nothing is free and someone is paying for that healthcare.
katielass · F
@Jakey75 You were lied to. The CBO projects millions will CHOOSE not to buy a policy. No one would be thrown off like the democrats are claiming.
katielass · F
@Jakey75 It was the first step in the wrong direction.
katielass · F
@Jakey75 then they'll have learned they should not have let that policy go.
Jakey75 · 61-69, M
@katielass obamacare is far from perfect but it is certainly well intentioned and should be strengthened. Millions of folks who were without needed health care are now covered and that is a good thing.
katielass · F
@Jakey75 No, it's not any kind of propaganda. As a nurse for the past 40 years I have taken care of many foreigners. And they do come here and even pay cash out of their own pocket in order to get the care they need. We usually give them a 10-15% discount for paying cash which helps them and we don't have to spend time and money trying to collect the charges.
katielass · F
@Jakey75 They support their system because they are stupid enough to think it's free and they don't know anything else.
Jakey75 · 61-69, M
@katielass even with a 15 percent discount the foreigners would have to be very rich to pay our high health care costs. Health care should be available to all not just to the rich!
katielass · F
@Jakey75 It was not well intentioned. The architect of blamocare has said on national TV more than a few times that the intent was to collapse the insurance industry so they could usher in single payer. Those of us who have worked for decades in the healthcare system and know it understood this before the damn law was signed. We even tried to warn you. Throwing hundreds of thousands of people out of a job is not a good intention and putting the incompetent government in charge of healthcare is not a lofty goal either. It's literally playing Russian roulette. You must live with hour head in a bucket because those poor people you're so concerned about are still not getting healthcare. Most of them have a fucking insurance card, not healthcare, a fucking card t carry in their wallet. And the ones who do have some coverage always had coverage. Its just being paid for by the ones who have only an insurance card instead of the entire population.
katielass · F
@Jakey75 the cost of living where I live is, shall we say, moderate. the people I've cared for were just middle class folks but they used their life savings to get the care they couldn't get at home. And the leaders there come here in "secret" to get healthcare. Yep, it's really great.
