@TotalMiss That's what we have. Sucks!

@SW-User I'm pretty sure low income people/families will be affected the most especially in Hawaii. Then premiums will skyrocket for people who are required to pay premiums.

@SimplyTracie oh of course it will hurt the low income people, rich people won't be bothered too much by it. It just hurts the people that need the help the most.

@SW-User Of course.

@TotalMiss sorry but i disagree... The concept behind insurance is that everyone throws in a bit of money so that someone's cost is shared around ... The problem happens when companies turn it into a money making venture ... Many countries have successful insurance type medical scheme

@TotalMiss umm, no.... Insurance is about spreading risk around... It doesn't have to be a commercial interest.... It's just become that way in many instances ... For example here we pay a small amount each pay check as medical insurance to the government, as a result we get nearly free medical cover... My dad had a heart attack, required three stents.... Total cost .. zip!
That's how the scheme should work

Insurance is the reason for what high costs? Medical care? no, that's a completely independent ecosystem. Insurance companies negotiate lower prices for their customers.
You are on the right track though, with this statement, even though you don't realize it.
The answer, is a single payer system, where the middle layer, as in insurance companies and their ecosystems, disappear, and is replaced with a government administered system, with low per-visit payments, and minor procedures, and 100% coverage for everything else.
Conservatives call that communism or socialism, and "Evangelicals" believe it's the devil's spawn.
Insurance is the reason for high costs. It is massively stupid to have a "system" that uses insurance to pay for most medical expenses.
