The basics can be learned very quickly. But it is one of those things where you can keep improving over time for years. There are 4 rules that matter most.
1. Keep your finger away from the trigger until you are lined up on your target and are ready to shoot!
2. Always assume a gun is loaded.
3. Never point a gun at anything (or anyone!) that you are not willing to destroy!!!!
4. Be certain of your target and of what is around and behind it.

it was a specialized gun and it took a long time to get the hang of it but I became an expert at it.

@SW-User I do not know how to handle all types of guns only small caliber handguns and rifles and a 38 caliber nail gun. The nail guns barrel and shroud had to be flush with the surface but I have fired tens of thousands of rounds from those guns.
I sold other larger caliber guns that I had because I was not comfortable with them either. I am not comfortable carrying a gun because I was not raised with guns and never carried one regularly. Many people around here carry guns and there was great pressure on me to buy guns.

@SW-User The best thing to do is go to your local gun club or gun shop.that has a shooting range and get some instruction. Most gun clubs are very friendly and willing to help new shooters
