I don't think it matters either way. There are so many guns floating around the US that any legislation is like closing the stable after the horse already ran off.
Trying to ban assault rifles or high ammunition clips sounds reasonable, but hardly any murders occur with that type of weaponry. Handguns are the most often used, and that's mainly because they're the most practical.
I think people deserve a right to feel safe, and sometimes that takes owning a gun. I think some types of guns are unnecessary, but many people use them for recreation.
The government can't protect everyone. We have to trust citizens to do things for themselves sometimes. It may not be the most desirable way of doing things, but it's what we have to deal with. Murders and gun violence need to be treated with a holistic approach. Strong communities and social services and support. Gun laws alone can only do so much
