A friend of mine recently asked ChatGPT to "interview" her and tell her where she sat on the political spectrum. Turns out she is solidly a "Social Democrat" (a term my European friends will understand). I loved the idea so I did the same thing with Gemini. It turns out I'm a "Pragmatic Neoliberal Centrist." I mention this because it is relevant to my viewing of this clip.
I really miss having a president like Barack Obama. I'm not saying I miss his politics. I'm saying I miss having a president LIKE him. He and I disagreed on more than we agreed on. But he showed respect for this person in the audience who was obviously not a supporter and who actively disagreed with the President's policies.
Respect for someone who opposed you. What a concept, huh? As a Centrist, I find much of what I hear from the left and the right to be so deeply offensive. Not the policies, everyone is entitled to an opinion and I will respectfully discuss any opinion with anyone. But what I find so offensive is the way in which so many on the left and on the right present their ideas and talk about their political opponents. We need to stop this and get back to respectful public discourse.
