Most of America are okay with sensible gun control that doesn't violate the Constitution.
1. Minors should not be allowed to buy guns.
2. Convicted felons should not be able to buy guns.
3. Illegal aliens should not be allowed to buy guns.
4. Crazy people should not be allowed to buy guns.
5. Crimes committed with a gun should have extra years added to the sentence.
That's reasonable.

@Reason10 They will just them illegally after all criminals obey laws.

@Reason10 I would rephrase your rules to say
XYZ should not be allowed to possess guns.
It's also reasonable register and license guns, and to keep an electronic registration database of who has bought what gun. And this database should contain every gun. And possession of an unregistered gun should be a felony.

@ElwoodBlues “ Cause registration of firearms ( to) leave the population defenseless”

@soar2newhighs Huh???
You mean the way registration of cars leaves the population transportationless??

@IM5688 Neither do thieves or murderers. Are you suggesting we abolish all laws because criminals don't follow them?
And, assuming we do register and license guns, and record their sales, it makes it rather easy to track how a gun moved into illegal hands, doesn't it??

@ElwoodBlues No, I am not saying anything about abolishing the laws. What I stated is that Minors, Convicted felons, Illegal aliens, and Crazy people don't usually follow the law.
You can put anything into law on paper, but unless everyone follows the law on that paper, it means very little.

@IM5688 Your claim is that laws have no deterrent value. This is false. Laws have deterrent value when there is a significant chance of being caught. That is why we also need to register and license guns, and record their sales. If guns are traceable, then illegal sales are easy to detect, and will be deterred.
Perhaps you are unaware that in 1986, Congress passed a ban on the ATF ever having a so-called federal gun registry or any kind of electronic database of firearms. As a result, it now takes an average of two weeks (and many person-hours of work) to trace the sale of a single gun. This system needs to be replaced with modern electronic records.

The irony of which, most of these shootings never would've happened if the laws we already have were enforced/enforceable
the anti gun nutters are always harping on about stricter background checks; it's the fbi's negligence for not maintaining/updating NICS system. They're the ones they should be complaining to...

@wildbill83 Background checks are effective in discovering if the buyer is a 1. Minor, 2. Crazy person 3. Convicted felon, 4. Illegal alien. No reasonable person has a problem with that.

@Reason10 And what about an electronic gun registration database?
